DFDS Seaways PLC, founded in 1866, are a shipping company who help to keep European nations connected through the delivery of goods.

Prior to using GetOnSite, DFDS Seaways PLC had a complicated manual induction process, involving Human Resources, Health & Safety and security teams. The process was long and difficult, and costing them too much time.

“GetOnSite have gone above and beyond our expectations.” Jason Norfolk, Emergency Planning Officer

The amount of time we’ve saved by using the GetOnSite platform is astronomical.

Challenges DFDS Seaways PLC faced

The primary problem that DFDS Seaways PLC were facing with their manual inductions was the amount of time it was costing them. Their inductions could take anywhere from 1-3 hours, and sometimes Security Managers and Health and Safety Advisors had to deal with multiple inductions per day, which was taking away their time that could have been put to something more productive.

Occasionally, these inductions would also fall through the cracks, with new starters only being made aware of inductions at their arrival on site, so a newer and more efficient process had to be found.

Solution

After signing up after a free demonstration from GetOnSite, DFDS Seaways PLC begun to implement their own PowerPoint slides onto the induction, but thought it would be better to remove them and have a custom video created to help get the message across. The inductions that DFDS Seaways PLC are using are employee and contractor inductions. The rollout of the system has worked very well for DFDS Seaways PLC, who now aim to implement all localised inductions by next year.

“It’s all been positive, I’ve not had one negative comment come back. The site managers have all been very positive about it.” Jason Norfolk, Emergency Planning Officer

Benefits

The amount of time that DFDS Seaways PLC have saved is one of the major benefits they have received from using the GetOnSite platform. The accessibility of the platform is another benefit that they have highlighted, particularly with regard to the medical questions, so that they are aware of any medical conditions contractors may have before they even set foot on site. Previously, monitoring contractors had been an issue, but now each responsible manager has access to the GetOnSite platform, and can update contractors’ logs at the click of a button if necessary.

“Working with the GetOnSite team has been a breeze. Victoria has been amazing and really helpful.” Jason Norfolk, Emergency Planning Officer

Results

The amount of time saved has decreased rapidly, falling from an estimated 14-15 hours a week spent doing inductions, to ten minutes of checking over contractors’ logs if there any issues that have been flagged up.

Additionally, feedback across the company has been positive, with both contractors and site managers expressing their satisfaction at the GetOnSite platform.

“The amount of time we’ve saved by using the GetOnSite platform is astronomical.” Jason Norfolk, Emergency Planning Officer

Conclusion

DFDS Seaways PLC were also hugely satisfied with the cost of the platform versus the benefits of the platform. Additionally, the simplicity of the platform is another area that they are impressed by, and will continue to use GetOnSite for the foreseeable future to undertake even more inductions.
